We were challenged to create a business venture that lines up with our personal passions. I chose to create a furniture company that specializes in high quality pieces for small living spaces. The design brief I gave myself was that the furniture needed to be easy to pack, store and move. Also to double as storage, be adaptable, have no tool assembly, and finally be sturdy and beautiful enough not to throw out when you move. I decided to look back to the origins of chair making and discovered the two board chair. That chair checked the boxes of no tool assembly, and easy to pack store and move. In order to modernize the chair and make it more adaptable and be able to double as storage I designed a socket system to interchange different storage attachments. For the branding I wanted to highlight the simple beauty of the product. I mixed natural colors with one pop of crazy green as a reference to the ancient origins of the design executed in a contemporary way. I created a bespoke typeface focusing on understated beauty. The photography system uses simple neutral spaces with just a small area of floor framing the context of the chair. Finally the multi-logo system of Whykin highlights the adaptability of the chair.
