Project
After several years and lots of success on the market, Little Unicorn was beginning to outgrow their original visual identity and brand strategy. Looking for a brand refresh to carry them through the foreseeable future, Lil’ U turned to modern8 to help refine the brand and clean up their look.
Beginning with an overhaul of Lil’ U’s brand strategy, we found and clarified a point of view for Little Unicorn to capture in their messaging that will always be the underlying dynamic between them and their audience: Little Unicorn connects to the notion that childhood is fleeting, and that having something beautiful to hold on to enhances that memory. Based around this point of view, we crafted a system of storytelling that brings the most important moments of childhood to the forefront of the brand’s marketing approach and allows Lil’ U to shine as the sentimentalists they really are.
In conjunction with their updated strategy, we took a good hard look at Lil’ U’s existing visual identity and made subtle, yet impactful changes to bring their aesthetic approach into harmony with the newly crafted brand strategy (while still maintaining the core elements that make Little Unicorn who they are). No stone was left untouched as we cleaned up and elaborated upon everything from the primary and secondary logos, to brand typefaces and colors, to photography and illustration standards—even the packaging was given a facelift.
At the culmination of this comprehensive redesign, we created a detailed brand book and presented the whole Little Unicorn family with a multi-hour brand training to ensure that the new brand took hold.
