Project
My goal was to create a highly conceptual and experimental brand for Research Week, a series of events every spring to showcase the exceptional research and researchers at USU. Research Week needed a brand that would spark the curiosity of the campus and uniquely represent not only the researchers from each college that participated, but research itself. The week-long event was unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and my branding was never fully used, all applications ultimately became part of the university curriculum as part of my final student portfolio.
I chose to depict research through the color pallet, grid systems, and visual chaos which are all contained in notebooks, being one of the basic mediums of all research. The main brand assets include abstract, bit-mapped illustrations to represent each participating USU college. Merging organic forms with bit-mapping felt appropriate considering the abundance of digital technology used to research our organic world and existence. The sophisticated and experimental treatment of type denotes the academic experimentation of Research Week.
